Right, now (Dec 2024), in order to gain the green CSCS Labourers Card you need to have passed the Health, Safety & Environmental Test for Operatives and also have an in-date certificate for one of a select number of 1 day construction Health & Safety courses or NVQs.

Once you have achieved these you can then apply for your card which will be valid for 5 years.

Changes From February 1st 2025

New Applicants (have not previously held a Labourers CSCS Card before)

You have to follow exactly the same steps as above but will only receive a card which is valid for 2 years. At the end of that 2 year period you will have to provide evidence that you are working as a Labourer and, if approved, you will be issued with a 5 year card. To help with this process, the Health, Safety & Environmental test for new entrants will have a 3 year lifespan which provides 12 months in which you can apply for the 5 year card.

Those Who Currently Hold a Labourer card and Wish to Renew

You will be eligible for another five-year card by providing evidence that you have been working in a Labourers role and by passing the Health, Safety & Environmental test plus producing an in date certificate for one of the supported Health & Safety awards. This must be done within 12 months of the expiry date of your card. If you wish to renew your Labourers card after this 12 month period then you will have to submit an appeal to the CITB providing evidence of your Labouring roles.

The New Rules and Providence Training

We will continue to provide the one day course (SPA Core Construction Day) and for those individuals and organisations who do not wish to arrange their tests and order their cards, we will continue to offer our booking service option, however, this particular service will change slightly:
